Vow Renewals, Sweethearts and Gay Marriage

August 27, 2015 by Laurine Laxer

We’ve been privileged, this week, to do quite a few vow renewal ceremonies AND gay commitment ceremonies. Actually, now that I’m thinking about it, we’ve also had some childhood sweetheart marriages, where people have reconnected. For us, an absolutely fabulous month. Also a very cohesive – connected – one too!

What all of these, seemingly very different, ceremonies have in common, is the uncommon fact, that in the 21st century, all have bucked th=dds and are willing to commit to each other.

Shoes

I was watching one of those wedding shows on reality tv, and was mesmerized by the stiletto heels that everyone was precariously perching on. Years ago, when I came to this Island, I lost the heel tips off every pair of Italian and Frency

Too Many Cooks

There’s an old saying that too many cooks can spoil the broth. Tonight, I learned that the same can be true about too many photographers and iPhone videographers at a wedding.

Reality TV and Other Really Stupid Things

August 26, 2015 by Laurine Laxer

I had one of those Fridays, where I was working on the computer and waiting for phone calls, so, like many of you on a Friday, I turned on the TV to do some wedding research. There are a few cable channels that have wedding shows, but there’s one that’s dedicated to the wedding biz on Fridays.

So here’s what I learned:

You can never please everybody. Someone will say not enough flowers, someone else will say too many. Your mother might want you to wear her dress, but it’s out dated and looks like hell on you. We all, yes, all of us, even Heidi Klum, have body issues and some gowns just don’t look good on you.

If you’ve planned your wedding since you were 6, just STOP right now and look at who you are, who your fiancé is, and plan a wedding for the both of you, TODAY, when you should be a lot more grown up than you were at 6.

Custom Vows

January 31, 2015 by Laurine

_DSC9883It’s been a while since I wrote a blog. We’ve been awfully busy doing a lot of same sex marriages. We are so happy that they are finally legal in Florida and we believe that very soon , they will be legal throughout America.

Of course, we also do ceremonies for couples of the opposite sex and I just wanted to share a bit of an email from a client. We’re doing a 10th anniversary vow renewal for her and her husband.

I’ve been a professional writer for all of my adult life, so one of the things that I can offer our clients is custom vows. Like I used to do with newspaper interviews, I ask some questions and try to get a feel for my couples. Then I try to communicate THEM in what I write.

I take it very seriously and it is always an extreme delight for me to receive emails like the following”

“WOW!!! I actually teared up! I really appreciate you Laurine! I feel like you really get us and our love! I cannot wait to meet you and recommit myself to my husband! ”

I LOVE my job!!!!

Happy New Year!

While same sex marriage is still being held hostage by our very unpopular Attorney General, Pam Bondi, we are sincerely hope that it will be a reality in Florida really really soon.
In the meantime, we continue to offer our pledge – if we do a commitment ceremony for you, THE MOMENT SAME SEX MARRIAGE IS LEGAL IN FLORIDA, YOUR MARRIAGE IS ON US!
That being said, we’ve been doing heterosexual marriages in Key West for over 10 years, and we hope that you will enjoy our no frills/high quality packages.
Happy New Year, Everyone. May all your dreams come true in the coming year!

What It’s All About.

December 28, 2014 by Laurine

I’ve had a pretty perfect Christmas and not one bit of it was about the presents, although we all had a lot of fun with presents. It was perfect because it was about family – our child and his…an much older brother hanging with his little sister…bonding with my husband’s daughter….watching him be a father, differently, to our boy and watching him be tender and sweet with his daughter who was bonding with me.

Marriage is not ever about two people, even though it is about the love between two people. Marriage is about family, our changing place within our families and the children who enrich not just us, but our families too.

I suppose that what I am trying to say, is that whether you are a heterosexual couple or a same sex couple, while marriage is about your love, your marriage is also about the love of family, parents, children, good friends. A good marriage is reflected in all of the facets of our lives. A good marriage needs to share the joy of family and the joy we have in those we love.

Hallelujah!.

Here’s what I know. The Supreme Court has refused to grant an injunction to block same sex marriage. in Florida. Pam Bondi, the Florida Attorney General, has given up the ghost….she realized that the Nation is going to let same sex marriage go forward and she is not going to continue challenging. Her last injunction ends on January 5th and that means, FOR CERTAIN, that same sex marriage will be legal in Florida as of January 6th, 2015.

If you are a same sex couple and we have done a commitment ceremony for you in the past, we are delighted to finally be honoring our guarantee – we’re going to do your marriage ceremony FOR FREE! Call us or email to book!

If you are a same sex couple and were not our previous clients, we’re offering a special if you book between now and January 6th….OFFICIANT ONLY WEDDINGS -$100*****OUR BEST LITTLE WEDDING PACKAGE (Officiant and photographer) – $150********

And as I read that, I realize that in honor of marriage equality, EVERYONE who books with us between now and January 6th can take advantage of that special, whatever your sexual persuasion! Just mention that you saw it on facebook or my blog to book.

Bring it on!!!!!!!

Marriage Equality is coming closer to reality…..

December 6, 2014 by Laurine

I know that I promised to keep y’all up to date on the latest in Florida’s same sex marriage battle, but it’s definitely been a waiting game as the election played out.  I couldn’t make personal comments on the election or all of the attempts our Attorney General made to halt the progress. But, I am absolutely DELIGHTED to report, that despite the non favorable election, the 11th district court refused to continue the stay on the Monroe County Judge’s ruling that the Florida ban on same sex marriages is unconstitutional and it is possible…..IT IS POSSIBLE….that same sex marriages will be legal and available in Monroe County, our county here, in Key West, beginning January 5th, 2015. We can hope…………………….

Thoughts on Our Weddings

September 4, 2014 by Laurine

We had a great wedding the other day, and my partner and I were feeling particularly good about our wedding company and the way we do business.

We started out in the wedding business by being scouted and hired by one of the first and best destination wedding companies in Key West. We earned our credentials by producing years of great weddings for our employers. They eventually sold the business to people who quickly disappeared, and we started our own wedding company.

Because we had been working in the field for several years, looking at what our employers did and all of the Key West wedding companies we encountered on the beach over the years, we decided on a very simple approach to our own weddings – reasonably and fair priced and geared totally toward our clients.

That means that although we offer “packages”, every wedding, commitment ceremony, vow renewal or event that we do is unique and reflects absolutely who our clients are and what they want. We listen and we’re here for our people 24/7 both before and after the event.

Possibly, we shot ourselves in the foot, because our previous employers charged a whole lot more than any of THEIR weddings were worth. I shouldn’t be saying this, but they charged a 20% gratuity on all of their weddings and not one cent went to the people who were making the events happen. We vowed to keep our quality high and our prices reasonable and fair.

We think that sometimes people mistake fair prices in a ridiculous market for low quality. NOT SO WITH US. We’re the ones with the beautiful, custom ceremonies who endeavor to make our clients dreams come true, whatever their pocketbook….

We want you to compare our customer service to theirs. You can see prices on all of our sites, but the really important thing is does the wedding company listen to you or do they try to sell you what they want you to buy?
